MRI Black Powder
I have been hearing great things about the MRI NO Black Powder supplement from friends hitting the gym. They say that this pre workout supplement is making them feel pumped, strong and ready to lift weights they would never normally dream of lifting…does it work or is it a placebo effect?
What is MRI Black Powder?
Well the MRI NO Black Powder is a supplement featuring Creatine and Arginine but also has Taurine, Beta Alanine, Caffeine and Green Tea among other workout kick ass supplements. This powerful mix gives you a physical and mental kick that is sure to boost your workout.
The MRI Black Powder supplement is a pre workout supplement that you take not long before training. Once you have kicked in your training regime you will find an amazing increase in energy and strength.
Some people believe that after training they can feel their muscles start to recover; in fact some people have said that they felt ready to hit the gym three hours after their previous gym session. While we have no confirmation that this is correct and would never suggest holding a training session three hours after the first the MRI Black Powder is getting rave reviews across the weight lifting world.
Summary
If your looking to improve your performance in the gym then its definately worth trying Black Powder as it is relatively low in cost and could improve your workout no end.

Tribulus Terrestris
Tribulus Terrestris is a plant that is seen as herbal and helps increase performance when weight lifting.
For centuries Tribulus has been used as a herbal remedy by the Chinese and Indians, the reason for its use is because of its medicinal qualities in the production of the luteinizing hormaone (LH).
In the last fifteen years the weight lifters in Eastern Europe woke up to the amazing properties of Tribulus as it improved their performance for the Olympics.
So what does Tribulus Terrestris do exactly?
The active compounds in tribulus are called steroidal saponins, these lead to the production of the luteinizing hormaone (LH), with the increased levels of the luteinizing hormaone (LH) the body automatically starts increasing the production of testosterone.
Increased levels of testosterone improve energy levels both mentally and physically dramatically giving added strength and...increased labido in the bedroom!

Protein Shakes
After eight months it is a shock to me that I have never written about the great support protein shakes can have on supplementing your diet to ensure you get your daily protein intake.
Generally people take protein shakes after training which is great. Truth be told taking protein shakes is a great way to supplement your diet and ensure you are getting your daily protein intake while also giving you an easy meal replacement for when you dont have time to make a mid meal snack.
There are two types of protein shake on the market, one has low carbohydrates so is nearly 100% protein and the other carries a 50/50 ratio on protein and carbs.
The protein shakes that are low in carbs are a great supplement to a main meal so you can increase your protein intake from your meal while not increasing the carbohydrate intake which you have already gained from the meal itself.
The protein shakes that are 50% protein and 50% carbohydrates are perfect for a snack between meals or for after training as they will give you a great protein injection while also giving your body the energy it needs.
I normally keep a tub of both at home so I can use them as I need, normally this means a protein shake that is low in carbs to supplement my breakfast so I know my protein intake has started well for the day. I then have a 50% protein and 50% carb protein shake straight after training to give my body the nutrients it needs.

L-Carnitine Info
L-Carnitine is a non essential amino acid, the body uses L-Carnitine by synthesizing it into the amino acids Lysine and Methionine.
Function of L-Carnitine
L-Carnitine have many roles but the ones that you would wish to gain from promoting growth to supporting the metabolic process, providing muscle energy and cell growth. L-Carnitine does this through the transfer of long chain fatty acids to Mitochondria.
L-Carnitine has been scientifically proven to mobilise long chain fatty acids, these long chain fatty acids such as Triglycerides are then transfered in to Mitochondria.
Mitochondria is a cells power plant as it generates the cells power through Adenosine Triphosphate (know as ATP).
How does this help me?
This means that your muscle will not fatigue so quickly giving you an extra boost with your reps while also helping with you regulate your metabolism and increase energy.
L-Carnatine in your diet
L-Carnitine can be found in many day to day foods such as
- Avacado
- Lamb
- Beef
- Cheese
- Eggs
- Milk

L-Glutamine
L-Glutamine is an amino acid and is one of only a small number of amino acids that are encoded in the standard genetic code.
Function of L-Glutamine
L-Glutamine has been scientifically scrutinised for nearly two decades. It has been proven in this time that L-Glutamine helps speed up the recovery process in the treatment of injuries.
When weight lifting or bodybuilding we lift weights and make small tears in our muscle fibres so they grow back stronger. You have to think that in essence small tears in muscle fibres are classed as a minor injury to our body, because of this L-Glutamine is a powerful supplement as it aids the recovery and growth of muscle fibres.
Many amatuer and professional weight lifters and bodybuilders use L-Glutamine supplements to aid their muscle growth and repair.
L-Glutamine in your diet
L-Glutamine can be found in many day to day foods such as
- Beef
- Fish
- Eggs
- Chicken
- Milk and dairy produce
- Cabbage
- Beetroot
- Parsley
- Spinach
- Different varieties of beans
If your serious about your training regime then L-Glutamine could be the right supplement to assist in your diet.

Caffeine
You may wonder why caffeine has been added to the supplement section rather than the nutrition section. The truth behind this is that even though caffeine is not a supplement from a store you buy it is still a supplement used for various reasons in weight trainnig.
Caffeine is a stimulant that affects the central nervous system and is found in many food products but in its most natural form is found in Tea, Coffee, Guarana Berries, Kola Nuts, Cocoa and Yerba Mate.
Although foods with added caffeine may hold higher levels of caffeine in their ingredients compared to the list above, caffeine in its natural form is the best supplement to take.
For those who are unsure of caffeine levels in products, the average cup of coffee holds 100 milligrams of caffeine.
So how does caffeine works as a training supplement?
Lifting More
Caffeine stimulates the central nervous system (CNS) by activating the Sympathetic Nervous System (SNS), this branch of the central nervous system causes an increase in heart rate, an improvement in blood flow and blood pressure to the muscle as well as the release of glucose from the liver.
Due to the above some power lifters and body builders actually drink coffee while they are training to give them an edge. The edge is due to the increase in blood flow to the muscles which can help lift that extra few reps or that extra few pounds/kilograms in weight.
Fat Loss
Caffeine carries Paraxanthine which aids lipolysis through helping the body to use fatty acids as a fuel. Not only this, caffeine is also believed to suppress a persons appetite and also help with energy expenditure (burning calories) through the thermogenic effect.
Mental Alertness
As well as aiding fat loss and the potential for greater physical strength caffeine also improves mental awareness making a person more alert and improving reaction times. Given that a persons mental state of mind can also be a big factor in how much they can lift caffeine can give a person the mental strength to lift that extra rep due to feeling alert and awake.

Creatine Monohydrate
Creatine is a supplement used by many athletes, including weight lifters, body builders and power lifters. The reason why many weight lifters and power lifters use creatine is because it is an energy source for the muscles.
Whats surprising is that it was in 1912 that researchers found that taking creatine orally equals an increase of creatine in the muscles but it was not until around 1992 that the use of creatine as a sport enhancing supplement was made popular.
Creatine monohydrate is the most common form of creatine supplement taken by weight lifters, power lifters and body builders.
What can creatine do for you?
Creatine can marginally increase your performance in the gym by increasing your phosphocreatine levels by up to 20%, this is a big deal as phosphocreatine is an important energy source for the skeletal muscles. Due to this creatine will increase your power during explosive exercises such as lifting weights.
Research has also proven that creatine improves the workload of satellite cells which support the body in muscle hypertrophy....every body builders wet dream!
It has been noted that creatine does also cause a higher amount of water retention, but this supports the bulk you will gain from this wonder supplement!

The Power of Zinc
Zinc is a mineral that is essential for the body and can be found in foods such as red meat, milk, nuts, spinach and liver. What many people do not know is this essential mineral is very important for your body and that many people suffer with a zinc deficiency without even realising it!
What has been happening in recent times is that men are turning to the likes of L-Glutamine and Creatine Monohydrate to bulk up and build lean muscle mass without realising there are minerals they can take that will support and improve their body.
So what does Zinc do?
First of all zinc actually improves your immune system, although this wont be your reason for taking it and this takes me to the second reason. Zinc increases protein production and has involvement in hundreds of enzyme reactions within the body on top of being important for cell repair and growth.
It has also been shown that meeting your recommended daily allowance of zinc can actually increase the production of testosterone!
The recommended daily allowance for zinc is 15mg, it is important to stick to the recommended allowances as taking 25mg plus of zinc per day could have an adverse affect on your body absorbing other minerals.
Zinc is one supplement I do take on a daily basis and I feel it supports my training very effectively.
